Tadi siang Jum'at, 9 Mei 2008 chairman microsoft corp, Bill Gates dan presiden Republik Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono memberikan kuliah di Plenary JCC tentang perkembangan TI di Indonesia.
Bill Gates banyak menyinggung tentang keterkaitan software dan dunia pendidikan, ia menyebutkan bahwa teknologi berperan sangat penting dalam menunjang pendidikan. Setelah melakukan pemberian materi dan mempresentasikan software tentang luar angkasanya, sesi tanya jawabpun dimulai.
Salah satu pertanyaan menyebutkan bahwa bagaimana microsoft mendukung OSS, karena di Indonesia yang cukup berkembang adalah OSS, (atau menurut saya sih mengapa windows ngga di-open source kan?) Gates menjawab bahwa dengan OSS banyak hal positif yang bisa diambil seperti menggali kreatifitas seseorang, tetapi, ia juga menyebutkan juga OSS diharuskan tidak melanggar policy dari software tersebut (mungkin maksudnya sih windowsnya jangan di-open sourcekan).Tetapi Gates menyebutkan bahwa Microsoft telah menyediakan berbagai software bagi seseorang yang ingin membuat software sendiri.
kalau menurut saya sih kita tidak usah mengharap windows di-opensourcekan, buat aja OS yang baru dan cocok untuk digunakan di Indonesia.
